Versatile TESTING for athletes

Tanhuvaara offers testing services for athletes in individual and team sports. 

There are pre-designed test batteries available, or alternatively, the tests can be tailored together with the coach and athlete to best support coaching and monitoring of development.

Durability tests

Threshold test

The test is performed in laboratory conditions by running on a treadmill or Nordic walking, pedaling on a bicycle ergometer, rowing on a rowing ergometer, or paddling on a canoe ergometer. 

The principle of the test is that the load is increased gradually until exhaustion. 

The athlete's lactic acid concentration is measured at regular intervals from the fingertip. Based on the athlete's heart rate, lactic acid and work/pace, threshold heart rates and power are determined for training. 

The test includes:

  • length, weight, fat % with caliper measurement
  • Lactic acid samples, 6-10 pcs during the test
  • maximum performance assessment
  • personal heart rate instructions for training

Threshold test on a treadmill

The test is performed on a treadmill at a heart rate-controlled, accelerating pace. The running distance is 5-8*800m. Between each 800m run, a lactic acid sample is measured from the tip of the finger. 

Based on heart rate, lactic acid, and running pace, the athlete's threshold heart rate and power are determined for training purposes. 

The test includes:

  • Lactic acid samples 6-8 pcs during the test
  • maximum performance assessment
  • personal heart rate guidelines for training, aerobic and anaerobic threshold
  • Can be performed by 1-4 people at the same time
  • Space requirement: sports field (can also be carried out outside Tanhuvaara, e.g. at your own municipality's sports field)

Strength and speed tests

Speed ​​tests

Speed ​​tests are mainly performed using photocells. The athlete's starting speed and maximum speed can be measured. 

Speed ​​tests can be performed with fixed photocells located on the running track of the Tanhuvaara multi-purpose hall or with mobile telemetric cells in any environment (sports field, ice rink, fitness track, etc.).

The most typical speed tests:

  • 30 m from the starting position, interval at 5 or 10 meters
  • 20 m flying start
  • Skating speed in the ice rink

Speed ​​strength tests

Speed ​​strength is most typically tested with vertical jumps performed on a contact mat. The relationship between jumps can be used to analyze the elasticity of the athlete's lower limbs. 

In Tanhuvaara, you can also measure power in barbell exercises using the Muscle Lab power measurement equipment. 

The most typical speed strength tests:

  • Static jump
  • Lightening jump
  • Static and lightening jump ratio = elasticity%
  • Reactivity jumps
  • Additional weight jumps on a contact mat
  • Power measurements in barbell movements (Muscle Lab)

Grow as an athlete tests

Growing Up as an Athlete is a versatility test for athletes aged 11–16. 

The test helps young athletes identify their own strengths and development challenges. 

The test measures speed, speed strength, mobility, muscle fitness, and endurance.

  • Height and weight

Team sports test batteries

Tanhuvaara offers different team sports with their own test batteries. The test batteries are compiled from test batteries used by different sports federations. 

Another option is to tailor a test battery for the team according to the sport/club's own needs.
